Notes & Rules


  • If the entry of the contestants are less than 15, the committee will cancel the regional round and refund the application fee to each contestant.
  • With exception to the piece for final round, the other chosen piece(s) may not be changed after the submission of the application form.
  • The contestant will receive the schedule and other information approximately 10 days before the date of each scheduled regional round and final round.
  • If the contestant plays a specific movement(s) or excerpt(s) from a suite or variation, it must be clearly noted on the application from. 
  • If the contestant plays more than one piece/movement, they must be played in the order written on the application form.
  • No repeats are allowed.
  • The piece should be performed without the score, unless specified in the Category section.
  • Actual performing time may be shorter than the designated length of performance. When longer, the jury will stop the contestant. The performing time will not affect the result. Duration will be timed from the line marked on the stage.
  • Arranged or shortened pieces are not accepted. (Accompaniment may be omitted.) 
  • Improvisation, prepared piano, etc. are not permissible.
  • Except for unaccompanied pieces, contestants should play with a piano accompanist.
  • Contestants are required to bring his/her accompanist and perform with accompaniment.
  • Contestants for entries other than piano must bring their own instrument, pedal extender/platform, footrest, etc. - - The order of performances in the final round shall be decided based on an alphabetical order. Starting letter will be decided by the Executive Committee.
  • Application fee submitted along with the form is not returnable unless the competition does not take place. 
  • Travel, accommodation and other costs must be borne by the contestants.
  • The contestants must obtain the necessary visas to visit Japan.
  • No inquiries about the judging procedures are permitted.
  • The 1st to 3rd prize winners in the final round must attend the Award Ceremony. (A proxy is acceptable, except for those who appear in the Grand Final=Gala Concert.)
  • Certificates and medals can be sent to those who fail to attend the Awards Ceremony. (Shipping fee will be charged.)
  • The contestant and audience are not allowed to take photograph and make audio/video recording during the competition.
  • All the performances and the right to broadcasting, recording, filming and photography in the competition and concert which are related to the competition, belong to the OSAKA International Music Promotion Society. Contestants have no claim over rights for them.
