Piano for section I


This section is eligible for age E to G.

 

Age Categories:

E1: Born between April 1st, 2011 ~ March 31st, 2013.

E2: Born between April 1st, 2009 ~ March 31st, 2011.

E3: Born between April 1st, 2007 ~ March 31st, 2009.

 

Age - J :   Born between April 1st, 2004 ~ March 31st, 2007. 

Age - H:  Born between April 1st, 2001 ~ March 31st, 2004.

Age - U:  Born before March 31st, 2001 or currently in College/University/Post-graduate.  

Age - G:  For those who graduated from any University/Post-graduate program. No age limit. 

 

+ Those who have graduated high school by March 2018 but have not yet entered university should be Age - U or Age - G.

Repertoire for the Piano:

(Note: Please note that piece(s)/movement(s) chosen for the Final Round should NOT be the same as the piece(s)/movements(s) chosen for the Regional Round in all instruments and Age categories listed below. The pieces need to be played by memory. A set piece must be performed in order. If the contestants play specific movement(s) or excerpt(s) from a suite/variation, those must be specified in the application form as well.) 

 

 

 

Ages - E1 to E3: 

 

For Regional Round in Malaysia

(Approximate Duration 4 minutes)

 

1) A piece or a movement from the Baroque period ( ~1750) OR an Etude chosen by the contestant.

2) A piece chosen by the contestant.  

 

 

For Final Round in Osaka

(Approximate Duration 5 minutes)

 

1) A piece chosen by the contestant. (Must be different from the piece for the regional round. Different movement or a piece from the same opus number is NOT acceptable.)


 

Age - J: 

 

For Regional Round in Malaysia

(Approximate Duration 5 minutes)

 

1) A piece or a movement from J.S.Bach or an Etude chosen by the contestant.

2) A piece chosen by the contestant. 

 

 

For Final Round in Osaka

(Approximate Duration 5 minutes)

 

1) A piece chosen by the contestant. (Must be different from the piece for the regional round. Different movement or a piece from the same opus number is NOT acceptable.)


 

Age - H:

 

For Regional Round in Malaysia

(Approximate Duration 7 minutes)

 

1) A Fugue from J.S.BACH's Well-Tempered Clavier Book I, II OR an Etude by Chopin (Op.10, Op.25) chosen by the contestant.

2) A piece chosen by the contestant. 

 

 

For Final Round in Osaka

(Approximate Duration 7 minutes)

 

1) A piece chosen by the contestant. (Must be different from the piece for the regional round. Different movement or a piece from the same opus number is NOT acceptable.)


 

Ages - U & G:

 

For Regional Round in Malaysia

(Approximate Duration 10 minutes)

 

1) A Fugue from J.S.BACH's Well-Tempered Clavier Book I, II OR an Etude by CHOPIN, DEBUSSY, SCRIABIN, RACHMANINOFF, PROKOFIEV or LISZT.

2) A piece chosen by the contestant.

 

 

For Final Round in Osaka

(Approximate Duration 8 minutes)

 

1) A piece chosen by the contestant. (Must be different from the piece for the regional round. Different movement or a piece from the same opus number is NOT acceptable.)


 

For Grand Final, Gala Concert:

 

Eligible for all Section I 1st prize winners. 

 

1) Any piece(s) of approx. 10 minutes max in duration, chosen by the contestant. For Ages E & J, approx. duration is 5 minutes max.

 

(Note: The same piece for the final is acceptable. The registration form for the Grand Final, Gala Concert will be handed out after the announcement of the finals' result. A shortened piece is acceptable.)
